Type Locality and Naming

Along the Akbulak stream, Dzhalair Ridge, northern slope of the Turkestan Range. Z.S. Rumyantseva, 1973 (387, p. 77). Stratotype along the Akbulak stream near the spring.

Synonym: Akbulak Formation, Акбулакская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Spotted detrital-oncolitic, algal–foraminiferal limestones containing siliceous concretions and nodules. At the base of the formation, bauxites are locally developed with thickness from a few centimeters to 8–10 m, or a unit 4.5 m thick of reddish-brown gravelstones, sandstones, and siltstones. Total thickness: 40–85 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It transgressively overlies the limestones of the Sulyuktin Fm

Upper contact

It is transgressively overlain by the limestones of the Ramazan Fm (165; 439).

Regional extent

Northern slope of the Turkestan Range, Dzhalair Ridge.

Contains foraminifera: Eostaffella jachakia Rum., E. angusta (Kir.), E. (Eostaffelina) protvae (Raus.), Millerella carbonica Grozd. and Leb., M. uralica Kir., Novella primitiva Raus., Pseudostaffella antiqua (Dutk.), P. cf. varsanofievae Raus., P. inconstans (Reitl.), Asteroarchaediscus ex gr. baschkiricus (Krest. and Theod.), and others.


Age 

It is assigned to the Lower Bashkirian Substage of the Middle Carboniferous. Put as arbitrary 90% up in Serpukhovian to emphasize soil facies
